Rollercoaster Ride
“It wasn't love at first sight. For nearly a year, I couldn't figure out what a SERVER was.”
I was unsure, anxious and uncertain about my career growth and what would happen next as a failed M_ _S candidate for two years in a row. Then IT(Bsc. IT) happened. I'm not going to lie, there was a period when I was seriously considering quitting. After much consideration and rethinking, I decided to give it another try.
Linux was my first step into the IT world. It motivated me to conduct research, read blogs, and read innumerous conversations of strangers arguing and agreeing on stack overflow. While installing Linux as my primary operating system, I was both terrified of damaging my laptop and excited about the result on the other side. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't attempted dual booting. I admit that it improved my researching/googling skills because there wasn't any software and I had to struggle all night to even install a simple software [until I discovered that YOUTUBE has tutorial videos for everything]. I struggled at first to set up the internet, which is now a cherished memory.
I can't recall the exact time but there was a point when I became more curious and wanted to learn more everyday. I would be happy if I knew and learned about some technology and technical terms. Cryptography was hands down the best thing to research ever. It’s history will hook you up, Blockchain, History of Internet, IoT, AI as well. There was a point when I believed Elon Musk was Satoshi Nakamoto.
Installing and exploring network security tools soon became a hobby. Edward Snowden got me block-taping my laptop camera for a year straight. Alt+Tab has become a lifestyle.Ctrl+Shift+I has become a habit. Terminal has turned into a playground where I never get tired of playing. The concept alone of Ethical hacking has kept me awake for several days. I couldn't sleep till I could get something installed. I've reached a point where I am happy to learn for learning and not just for exams. Nmap is cool. Burp suite is the best thing ever.
At some point it can get overwhelming while seeing so many things to learn and you will for sure want to learn everything but trust me note it down and make a plan. I haven't learned everything but I am not at the same place as I was a year ago. There is a long list of people I want to thank but I'll save it for later as I believe this is just the beginning of an adventurous yet fun-filled journey.
